Bonding

Having grown deadly tired of listening to local radio to pass time at work, I recently picked up a couple of books on tape including a complete reading of Ian Fleming’s Bond short stories by Simon Vance (who does a tremendous job).

Having never read Fleming before, I am impressed with his prose skills, not to mention his way of making 007 a character who is most interesting when subdued – for example, in “Quantum of Solace” which (unlike the film) simply involves Bond having a quiet conversation about a bad marriage.

However, for sheer action “Risico” was probably the most satisfying Bond story, not to mention a plot basis for the 1981 film adaptation of “For Your Eyes Only.”

Jolly good, I say.
