Free Advice for Republicans

Build and stick to a core message other than obstructionism, and stop bitching about Barack Obama every time he sneezes on a Tuesday. Both tacks are pathetic. Also right-wing pundits like Glenn Beck and Sean Hannity are not doing the GOP any favors. Distance yourself from these (and other) mouth-breathing dopes whose only priority is lining their own pockets.

Divorce the GOP from all things neo-conservative. It decayed your party from the inside out during the Bush administration, and the sooner you purge it (and all things Cheney) from the Republican brand, the better off your future will be.

Recognize that Ronald Reagan is gone forever. Also stop desperately trying to conjure the man’s ghost. He’s history. Move on.

Kill the notion that in order for the GOP to return to its glory days that it must exclusively rebuild its conservative base, and force out all moderates (e.g. Lindsay Graham, Olympia Snowe, Christie Todd-Whitman). This strategy (pushed by Karl Rove) is self-destructive, and foolishly alienates centrist voters in national elections.

Never return a phone call or email from Sarah Palin or Newt Gingrich again. You'll thank me for it. Also, give Michael Steele his well-deserved pink slip.
