John Hughes (1950-2009)

Sure, “Home Alone” should be forever cast into the Seventh Circle of Hell and "Vacation" is overrated, but John Hughes movies like “Sixteen Candles,” “The Breakfast Club,” and “Ferris Bueller” are true ‘80s classics.

Otherwise, the best aspects of Mr. Hughes’ films were that they illustrated the pitfalls of adolescence—and how it often sucks--without being too whiny or patronizing.

Thanks, sir.
