So Say We All

Well, not “all” of us cater to the following points...

But once again, Jon Stewart is dead-on in his criticism of those who patently lie and fear-monger (case in point) to obstruct political change – which is not to say that people cannot sincerely oppose issues like health reform; I just prefer that they do so with facts versus horseshit and mindless theatrics. However, I realize that is is probably expecting too much from some.

[The following is transcripted from Jon Stewart’s “Daily Show” interview with Lou Dobbs dated 11-18-09]

DOBBS: I would urge only this for everybody to consider. It is a time in which we have a nation that is extraordinarily delicate, extraordinarily vulnerable, and I think it’s time we start rethinking many of the orthodoxies - no matter if one thinks of oneself as a conservative or a liberal, or a Republican or Democrat.

STEWART: I don’t think we’re a delicate country, and I don’t think we’re a fragile country. I think that we’re [incredibly] tenacious…the whole fabric of this country was born of people who came from a place that they didn’t want to be to a place that they wanted to be…and that ethos still lives in this country. And the idea that trying (KSM) in New York will destroy us, or an attempt to bring universal healthcare to people will destroy us, or trying to solve…global warming will destroy us is trumped up fear that’s being used as a wedge to flatter people into voting for them, and it is absolutely not a part of our national character. And the people who continually tell me how much they love this country--and I don’t--also say how little this country can accomplish to overcome the problems that all countries face.

Word of The Day

(Vis-à-vis Pandagon):

Saddlebacking – (v.) 1. The term for the phenomenon of Christian teens engaging in unprotected anal sex in order to preserve their virginities. Named after Saddleback Church, home of the Reverend Rick Warren, who is a proponent of abstinence education, the "sex ed" that has convinced so many Christian girls and boys that [anal] isn't actually sex.

Holding Court

Yes, I’m probably as tired of writing about Sarah Palin here as much as some people are of reading about her, and her current book tour. However, click here (Thanks, Ed Brayton) for a fascinating sampling of those backing Palin (with highlights posted below), and lashing out against the ex-governor’s critics – not just on the left, but the right as well.

Truly, Sarah Palin is the queen of imbeciles, and these are the voices of her court:

…Intellectualism has just about nothing to do with being President….[intellectuals] are dopes.”

…I don't think a "dumb" person (Palin) could be given credit for successfully pointing out the "death panels.”

…Palin's narrative is humble hockey mom rides a rocket to stardom. She became freakin' governor of the largest state of the Union, for pete's sake. John McCain -- who oughtta know -- picked her to join him in the White House. Does she have what it takes to be President -- you betcha!”

…I'll bet Palin will learn to be as vicious and underhanded as a University of Wisconsin liberal by the time the next election rolls around.”

…[Palin] has a better understanding of the constitution…than many constitutional "scholars", including our president.”

And the following grand-prize winner:

…Any history majors like to jump in here and explain what a non-intellectual and near dufuss we had in a former President named George that barely won a battle as a General until the French showed up.”

[That’s right. The above poster is comparing Sarah Palin to George Washington who incidentally won battles at Trenton, Princeton, and Saratoga before “the French showed up” and unlike Palin, had military combat experience and never resigned prematurely from office.]

Biting The Hand

Why CBS News is remotely interested in Ann Coulter’s opinion concerning Sarah Palin’s new, five-chapter book mystifies me. Even so, much of the buzz surrounding "Going Rogue" is said to emphasize Palin’s frustration with how she was handled by Team McCain in '08, an attitude which (if true) strikes me as incredulous considering how the now ex-governor was her own worst PR rep after her huge splash (thanks to speechwriter Matthew Scully) at the RNC Convention.

As such, if Palin herself can’t recognize why McCain’s handlers wanted her under wraps by limiting media interviews—in which Palin humiliated herself time and again--then she’s more dense than I suspected. Yet beyond this, for Palin to use her new book to grouse about Team McCain now runs the risk of depicting herself as ungrateful and self-centered, plus will no doubt further drive a wedge between conservative moderates like John McCain, and the far-right cadre of Palin, Limbaugh, Bachmann, and their brain-dead base.

Either way, Palin will no doubt make a lot in sales. And there’s nothing wrong with that.

I just wonder if after the dust from her book tour settles if Palin won’t have committed yet another public blunder by biting the hand that fed her, not to mention the one that elevated her to the national stage.

Greatest Hits

Courtesy of DFTCW, check out a blog by a perfectly sane chap named Pat Dollard regarding the recent Fort Hood shootings, and his fervent belief that Hasan’s assault was a conspiracy engineered by Barack Obama (whom Dollard refers to as "amabO").

But for second round on Mr. Dollard's hit parade of insanity, scroll down and read the responses of his fans (some excerpted below with all spelling errors intact). By comparison, they make the likes of Glenn Beck and Debbie Schulssel seem perfectly reasonable.

…I wrote my Congressman and Senators about how there is absolutely no place in the armed services or in any federal government for Muslims.”

…[Hasan] was clearly a sleeper cell agent positioned at Walter Reed Army Medical Center — a center for the SOCIALIZED MEDICAL SYSTEM forced upon our soldiers! Coincidence? I think not!”

…We should never of allowed a black man to be president, epecially a MUSLIM.”

And my personal favorite:

…Bennedick Arnold was Hung for Treason.”

Wow. Well, for one thing, Billy-Bob, the name was “Benedict.” Not “Bennedick.” Secondly, Arnold was never “Hung For Treason.” After defecting to the British Army in 1780, Arnold moved to London two years later where he later died of natural causes in 1801.

People like all of the above are why I wish stupidity were a contributing factor in the occurrence of strokes. That is, if you're incapable of using your own brain responsibly, nature should reward you with a sudden lobotomy.
