I wonder…in what cave was Karl Rove residing between 2000-2008? Y’know, the days when his boss failed to veto a single spending bill - that is, until '06 when the Dems took over Congress?
Is Rove high, delusional, or just thinking no one will remember the Bush Administration squandering a budgetary surplus, then driving up the deficit we enjoy today—the same one that Dick Cheney claimed did not matter--like it was going out of style?
Once again, FactCheck.org does its thing by clarifying that the far-right's recent noise over “Climategate” is just that: desperate, lame noise without form.
Recently, Slate hosted an online contest challenging readers to come up with a sentence in the mental vein of Sarah Palin a-la-a “Going Rogue.” The winners and runners up—which sadly, did not include my entry (available below)—were pretty good, with the second place finisher by Steve Aydt getting my own personal thumbs up:
"Here's a little news flash for your Department of Media: Superman's parents chose life and he was adopted in small-town USA by real Americans who run our factories, harvest our meat-bearing animals, and wave Old Glory down at the courthouse and the churches, not in Washington D.C. by cynical power-brokers and liberal scientists."
Not bad at all; here’s my own contribution which went over the contest’s one-sentence limit, but I enjoyed writing anyhow…
"As Todd dropped to an oil-speckled knee and whipped out the most awesome Zirconia my peepers ever laid eyes on, I finally understood how Jesus must've felt when he cured those little guys on the Lucky Charms boxes. I had found my destiny, one spread out before me like a bloody wolf pelt. And it was cozy as all heck."
How ironic that it takes Bill Shatner to take it to Rush Limbaugh for his myriad warped positions better than any so-called journalist I’ve ever seen.
However, in their interview the following exchange truly bullseyes Limbaugh’s gaping lack of awareness on the topic of modern American life:
"Here's my premise and you agree with it or not," Shatner posited. "If you have money, you are going to get health care. If you don't have money, it's more difficult."
Rush skirted the issue and chose to talk about real estate instead. "If you have money you're gonna get a house on the beach. If you don't have money you're gonna live in a bungalow somewhere."
Wrong, shithead. If one doesn’t have money—or a job—one isn’t going to live in a swanky bungalow. One is going to live on the fucking street.
Are you honestly so wrapped up in your own wealth that you can’t fathom how normal people live, especially in the midst of the worst US recession since 1929?
The following statement truly belongs alongside such timeless quotes as “I regret that I have but one life to give for my country” and the Gettysburg Address:
"Her presence underscores the impact and importance of bowling."
– Stephen Johnson, Executive Director, Bowling Proprietors Association of America, on the announcement of former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin addressing the group’s annual convention in 2010.
Ah, yes. Truer words were never spoken. When one thinks of the impact and importance of a beer frame, who else springs to mind but Sarah?
