Karma Sucks

Regarding his interest in buying a share of the St Louis Rams, I’m sure that for Rush Limbaugh—who is a huge NFL fan—such minority ownership would represent for him a lifelong dream fulfilled. And truly, I don’t care if he’s successful. It doesn’t matter to me either way.

Yet if Limbaugh is at all surprised that there is an upswell of resistance to his bid, he needs to realize—if Rush doesn’t already--that while building a very lucrative career as a rabble-rouser he’s pissed off many people along the way.

As such, did Limbaugh seriously think that his behavior wouldn’t come back to bite him off-air?

UPDATE (6:39PM): Apparently, Rush Limbaugh has been officially dropped from the investor group seeking to purchase the Rams due to public backlash, which may be connected to St. Louis having a sizable black population whom Limbaugh has pissed off often throughout his career.

Not surprisingly, Rush was spinning his defeat today as the product of a vast, left-wing conspiracy....

And I quote:

“This is not about the NFL, it’s not about the St. Louis Rams, it’s not about me,” Limbaugh said [on his radio show today]. “This is about the ongoing effort by the left in this country, wherever you find them, in the media, the Democrat Party, or wherever, to destroy conservatism, to prevent the mainstreaming of anyone who is prominent as a conservative."

“Therefore, this is about the future of the United States of America and what kind of country we’re going to have.”

Actually Rush, this decision was entirely about you.

And as for your whining regarding as-goes-my-bid-to-buy-into-a-professional-sports-franchise, so-goes-the-nation, your ego has finally, officially grown so large that it now threatens to supplant Jupiter as the largest object in the solar system.

Attention Liz Cheney!

A few points of order: a) Where do you get off lecturing the nation on national security when you never served in the military, and your “five deferments” pop all but fled to Canada to duck going to Vietnam?; b) Your entire career in government is based upon nepotism, and; c) No one except Roger Ayles and the GOP’s shriveling neo-con base gives a fiddler's fuck what you think.

Shut up. That is all.

Political Dream Diary

Don’t ask me why, but last night I dreamt that the White House announced that Barack and Michelle Obama were expecting a third child.

(Yes, I am such a political nerd that I sometimes dream about it. Thanks for asking).

In response, bloggers and right-wing pundits (again, same dream) immediately accused the Obamas of engineering a pregnancy to deflect negative press over the healthcare debate and troop levels in Afghanistan.

And y’know what? This scenario is probably accurate.

No Way Out

This afternoon, Chris Mathews posed a silly question to his “Hardball” panelists: who is the current leader of the Republican Party, Rush Limbaugh or RNC head Michael Steele?

Survey Says: neither, which is why the GOP is in such disarray right now.

Steele lacks the charisma to be a national leader for his party, and is an ineffective spokesperson. Period. Yet whereas Limbaugh wields heavy influence with the conservative base (who when Rush yells “Jump!” can’t reply “How high?” fast enough) it’s become so infected with the Rove/Cheney neo-con philosophy that one can no longer tell where it begins, and so-called Reagan-style conservatism (which Limbaugh claims to exalt) leaves off.

The reason why is simple: for as much as George W. Bush espoused Reagan, most of his policies ran in direct opposition to Reagan-style conservatism (e.g. high spending and expansion of government), and his party—in addition to waterboys like Limbaugh—never stood up to it for longer than five minutes. As such, the “soul” of the GOP—which has tied its spiritual wagon to Reagan since 1980—has no clear message anymore. And the resulting vacuum affords those like Limbaugh and other right-wing pundits the perfect opportunity to step into the gap, and present their own "contracts" for America which are really just an endless, often contradictory stream of talking points designed to pad their ad revenues versus offering the GOP—much less the nation—genuine solutions other than to oppose everything Barack Obama says or does.

So in the end, in Steele the RNC has a leader who can’t lead dick, and a self-built media baron in ‘ol Fat Bastard who openly admits he cares more for lining his wallet than the party he allegedly supports – not to mention still doesn’t understand that any presidential candidate needs to garner a portion of centrist votes to win any election.

As long as the Republican Party continues to follow these alleged shepherds, they’ll never find a way out of the haunted forest they happily blundered into without a map.

Mt. Scalia Erupts (Again)

Behold Exhibit A wherein Justice Antonin Scalia is shocked—shocked, I tell you—when told by ACLU attorney Peter Eliasberg during arguments for Salazar v. Buono that the Christian cross is not, in fact, a universal memorial symbol that applies to all U.S. war dead - especially those who are Jewish, Muslim, Hindu or Atheist.

I mean, where does Eliasberg think he lives? Commie thug! Go back to Stalingrad!
